a l’approche d’Halloween, la galerie ZazafromBrussels vous invite à découvrir un tout autre univers, celui de l’artiste Renier Semidey, artiste autodidacte bruxellois, d’origine cubaine, présenté pour la toute première fois en Belgique avec cette exposition au tître de circonstance...

Ils sont là, du moins en apparence. Ils répondent aux courriels, enchaînent les réunions et perpétuent les codes de la courtoisie professionnelle. Mais sont-ils encore vivants ?

Dans “The Working Dead”, Renier Semidey transforme les artefacts du monde de l'entreprise en armes de rebellion visuelle. L’exposition réunit des œuvres conçues au cœur même de la routine bureaucratique : dessins au stylo-bille, à l’encre et au marqueur sur feuilles de bureau, grands dessins à l’encre de Chine et peintures à l’acrylique sur toile.

Nourrie d’expressionnisme et d’art brut, l’œuvre de Renier détourne le langage aseptisé du jargon corporatif. Les figures, hybrides et inquiétantes, démantèlent le masque d’efficacité imposé par l’institution. Mâchoires démesurées, regards panoptiques et têtes repliées sur elles-mêmes incarnent une humanité en décomposition.

Entre l’urgence du trait sur papier de bureau et la violence de l’acrylique, l’exposition dresse le portrait d’une aliénation organisationnelle où l’individu finit peu à peu vidé de sa substance.

As Halloween approaches, the gallery ZazafromBrussels invites you to discover a completely different world, that of Renier Semidey, a self-taught Brussels-based artist of Cuban origin being showcased in Belgium for the very first time with this aptly titled exhibition...
They are there, at least in appearance. They answer emails, move from one meeting to the next, and uphold the codes of professional courtesy. But are they still alive?
In "The Working Dead," Renier Semidey transforms corporate artifacts into weapons of visual rebellion. The exhibition brings together works created in the very heart of bureaucratic routine: drawings in ballpoint pen, ink, and marker on office paper; large India ink drawings; and acrylic paintings on canvas.
Influenced by Expressionism and Art Brut, Renier’s work subverts the sanitized language of corporate jargon. His hybrid, unsettling figures dismantle the mask of efficiency imposed by the institution. Oversized jaws, panoptic gazes, and heads turned inward embody a humanity in a state of decay.
Balancing the urgency of lines drawn on office paper against the raw intensity of acrylic paint, the exhibition portrays a form of organizational alienation in which the individual is gradually drained of their substance.

Nu Halloween nadert, nodigt de galerie ZazafromBrussels u uit om een ​​totaal andere wereld te ontdekken: die van Renier Semidey. Ze zijn er wel – althans, zo lijkt het. Ze beantwoorden e-mails, gaan van de ene vergadering naar de andere en houden zich aan de codes van professionele beleefdheid. Maar zijn ze nog wel in leven?
In "The Working Dead" transformeert Renier Semidey kantoorattributen tot wapens van visuele rebellie. De tentoonstelling brengt werken samen die in het hart van de bureaucratische sleur zijn ontstaan: tekeningen in balpen, inkt en stift op kantoorpapier; grote tekeningen in Oost-Indische inkt; en acrylwerken op doek.
Beïnvloed door het expressionisme en Art Brut, ondermijnt Reniers werk de gepolijste taal van het bedrijfsjargon. Zijn hybride, verontrustende figuren ontmantelen het masker van efficiëntie dat door de instelling wordt opgelegd. Buitensporig grote kaken, panoptische blikken en naar binnen gekeerde hoofden verbeelden een menselijkheid in staat van verval.
Door de urgentie van lijnen op kantoorpapier te combineren met de rauwe intensiteit van acrylverf, schetst de tentoonstelling een vorm van organisatorische vervreemding waarbij het individu geleidelijk zijn wezen verliest.
