Guided by Apratim Majumdar’s refined mastery of the sarod, joined by Amit Chatterjee on tabla and his disciple Fred Nortes on pakhawaj, the performance becomes a living dialogue — a bridge between contemplative depth and melodic grace. At its heart lies Paramparā — the sacred lineage, the unbroken chain from master to disciple — embodied in the musical bond between Amit Chatterjee and Fred Nortes, and illuminated by the profound presence of Apratim Majumdar. In this shared moment, every note stretches beyond time, and every silence becomes part of a collective meditation — a space where sound, devotion, and transmission merge into one.
The Hindustani duo Amit & Apratim is the story of a deep musical bond forged in childhood, at the very heart of North Indian classical tradition. Originally from Calcutta, they bring their instruments into dialogue on demanding stages across India, Europe, and the United States, sharing an intimate, inherited, and living music.
Fred Nortes, a student of Amit Chatterjee since 2008, later joined this artistic relationship. From this encounter emerged ParamparĀ, a Sanskrit term meaning continuous transmission — a symbol of a musical heritage passed on from generation to generation.
