This concert is for an audience that enjoys music and is interested in and curious about Carnatic classical music. The concert will introduce the audience to the beauty, depth, and structure of Carnatic music while drawing accessible parallels with Western classical traditions. The concert will be presented by Balu Masti on Veena and R Ramakrishnan on Mridangam (percussion).
Each raga will be introduced briefly with mood/emotion, followed by an alapana, composition, and optional improvisation. Improvisation in Carnatic music will be compared to jazz and Baroque ornamentation.
