The Hungarian Bauhaus and its Heritage – Impacts and Influences of the Bauhaus of Pécs on Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Architecture and Intermedia

- "History behind the development and afterlife of the Bauhaus movement in Hungary"- lecture by Katalin Getto, aesthete, architectural critic.
In the Museum of Applied Arts /Musée des Arts Décoratifs/ in Paris organized a grandiose exhibition on Bauhaus, unique of its kind in the last fifty years. The great public interest the exhibition aroused in France shows that the values represented by Bauhaus are still considered of crucial importance, its ideals and aesthetic standards are worth attention.
The large number of Hungarian Bauhausler illustrates the fundamental role Hungary played in the movement. Here, the Bauhaus style became an influential current first and foremost in architecture.
Pécs is considered the cradle of Hungarian Bauhaus as quite a few outstanding Bauhaus-artists started their career there. Referring to Farkas Molnár, Alfréd Forbáth and Marcell Breauer the year is exceptional. In we celebrate the 1 anniversary of Farkas Molnár's and Alfréd Forbáth's birth, while Marcell Breauer was born 115 years ago.
On the occasion of these anniversaries, with the co-operation of the Janus Pannonius Museum of Pécs, we put on display about thirty works of art (paintings, graphics) to give insight from constructivism to Bauhaus.
Besides, twenty-five contemporary art pieces give an idea of the innovative aesthetic structure of Bauhaus which opened the way for technical novelties, and demonstrate the influence and continued existence of Bauhaus in graphic arts, architecture, graphic design, goldsmith's art and photography.
